The picture above shows how to connect your Clash to your devices and sound systems. It is quite easy to do so, in fact there are only three audio jacks available. The outer ones are to connect devices like mobile phones, tablets, CD Player, Tape Decks, personal assistance like Alexa or Siri, your PC etc. Basically any device which outputs an audio line level is a good source. The middle audio jack is the output of The Clash. Connect your stereo or sound system and you are ready to clash.

Snowsculpting Finland Day 3 & 4

Snowsculpting Finland Day 3 & 4

Evening of day two was at the Oulu Town hall. Evening started quite easy but then it developed into a great party.

Day 3 went very well progress was great. And the weather is perfect for carving. We have now -21 degrees celsius. But there was a scary update from the weather forecast service. There will be rain tonight and temperatures going up to 3 degrees. If that is the case some of the sculptures might be in trouble. Lets see…

Kalle provided us with a beer emergency kit. I assume he meant “Break” instead of “Broke” 🙂

And then on day 4 – The real nightmare for us begun. Temperature raised over night to plus 4 degrees. Rain was there in the night. As a result we had the first collapse of our sculpture around 15:30. A bigger part of our wall collapsed. However we could fix that quite well. After the first shock we did not gave up and started to fix the sculpture. Another 2 hours later, we just had a coffee at the Luma Bar, someone came and told us that our 3,5 meter statue collapsed. That was the time where we were very close to resign. But Olympic spirit won and so we build on what was left. After all we came up with a much smaller statue and less walls but the idea of the sculpture was still visible.

Black Forest – Sculpture 2019

Black Forest – Sculpture 2019

Lothar did an outstanding job and created a beautiful piece of art. The sculpture is quite challenging but we a confident to carve it out of the block quite nicely. As Lothar always said: “The sculpture is already in the block, we just have to carve it out”

Name of the sculpture is “In the Matrix” – An abstraction of how social networks are determine our lives. There is always an exit, an open part of the fence. A life without being networked. But no one is brave enough to take the step.

Sculpture selected!

Sculpture selected!

Yesterday Dethlef, Lothar and I met to discuss about the sculpture. Finally we decided for one of the most beautiful one I have ever seen. The name of the sculpture is “Caught in the Matrix” and is a homage on social networks and what it can do with individuals. Stay tuned, I will post a picture as soon as I got the green light to do so from the team.

Finland called, we answered…

Finland called, we answered…

I was asked to write some not so typical answers to the questions we got from the Baltic Snow Call during the application phase. It is really the truth that I was not thinking that Lothar sends this to the committee. To cut a long story short, he did!

TEAM GERMANY – BLACK FOREST

At least I (Mike) was not responsible for the picture above 🙂

Introduction

Tell us about your team; who are you and where do you come from?

Team Black Forest is a mixed team of artists with broad experience in landscaping, music, light art and snow sculpting. We live in the very south-west of Germany at the border to France and Switzerland. Our sculptures are inspired by the beautiful Black Forest, the proximity to France, Switzerland and Italy. These cultural influences are reflected in our sculptures and as soon as we see 25 tons of compressed snow we are going in for the kill and do it for the thrill!

Team History

How long have you worked together? What are your team’s greatest achievements?

Team Black Forest work togehter as a snow sculpting team since more than 14 years. Beside the core team there are always handpicked friends joining in to ensure diversity and provide the most exciting sculptures for international competitions. Team Black Forest was 1st place in Lake Tahoe, USA and just 7 days later 1st place in Nayoro, Japan. On top of that Team Black Forest built the world-wide first interactive snow sculpture in Whitehorse, Canada 2016.

About Snow Sculpting

How did you end up carving snow and what is best in snow sculpting?

In the Black Forest it can happen that you are not able to leave your village because of snow blocking the streets. If we have had enough of repairing cuckoo clocks and swinging our balls we started getting creative. After building many snowmen we figured out that we are destined for greater things. Snow-sculpting is for us the transformation of cold and pain into team spirit and from there to the great satisfaction called a snow sculpture.

Baltic Snow Call?!

What do you expect from Baltic Snow Call?

Our dream is to sit with the Finnish Hockey Team Leijonat in a Sauna, listening to the Leningrad Cowboys and drink some of the nice Salmiakki to celebrate 100 years of Finland.
