We are very proud to tell that we won 3rd place at the Whitehorse Snow Sculpting Challenge 2016. There were very strong competitors. 2nd place goes to Alaska. 1st place to Team Yukon.

We want to mention that the hospitality of the event and the organization is brilliant. Ivy and Don are providing first class food, drinks and organized various dinner and events. But this is not only feeling like a typical international Challenge. It is a very warm and family like environment. We bow to you Ivy and Don!

Air Canada was not nice to our luggage

Mikes room looks a bit untidy – We got a problem with a bluetooth module, the antenna broke. Finding a replacement for this specific part in  a location like Whitehorse is like asking for a bottle of red wine at the Hofbräuhaus.

Last details

Unfortunately the weather is too warm. Also Canada faces the global climate change. We expect temperatures above freezing point and all teams struggle with this very much.

Some Teams try to shield the sun
If the sculpture comes with lots of details the current weather situation is the worst thing you can have. The snow melts on the surface 2-5cm deep and blurs thin lines or melts overhangs.

How are we doing?
We are a bit better prepared since we come with our own sun roof, however we are also quite concerned if the tons of kilograms heavy roof stays where it is. Lothar said if you hear crackles -> run.

Snow is almost gone on the venue. Water everywhere.

Most of the snow is now carved out of the sculpture. Now we concentrate on details and sanding.

We got invited by the city of Whitehorse (at least this is what we think it was) to a traditional dinner. People were dressed very nicely and we must say it was a good idea not go there directly from the carving area but have a shower first 🙂
