Art Coding

Art Coding

I am currently writing lots of code. I am using processing a great tool to code visual arts. The good news is that I do have already a running version including 3D controller and working output to the blueScreen via UART. The bad news is that I can only do the final testing if I have built the huge LED wall. So at the moment it is a shoot in the dark. Similar situation I had earlier this year when doing the light art for “BeOne“. BeOne was the first interactive snow sculpture in the world done by the great German Snow-sculpting Team. There I developed the hardware and the software without any chance to test it before. What can I say – we were lucky!

Using the outstanding pixel flow library from Thomas Diewald made things around liquids very easy. Thomas also offered an example for particles in liquids. This example was already so much what I want that I basically just changed minor parts of it.

What is DeinBlau?

What is DeinBlau?

deinblau-405Imagine – you can influence a huge wall of blue lights just with your hand. Then, at a certain point, you push a button and freeze the picture. What you then see is yourBlue or in German DeinBlau. We will take this moment and add it to a big picture, a collage of thousands of tiles produced by all the visitors of the exhibition. So at the end you are a part of a big piece of art. Wouldn’t that be great?

DeinBlau or YouBlue?

DeinBlau or YouBlue?

YouBlue is an installation for the Museum am Lindenplatz in Weil am Rhein. There is an exhibition in October and the name of it is Blautöne (shades of blue). So why is this page then in english and the name of the installation in German? Well,  it will allow much more people to see what’s behind deinBlau especially for those who are interested in technology.

YouBlue is currently under development. Lots of obstacles are in the way at the moment. Especially time is an issue. However most of the material to realize this art project are ordered and some of them are already delivered.

During the fireworks which was part of the Whitehorse “Rendezvous” people gave “Be one” a break and we could make some videos. Right after the firework the crowd came back and all wanted to be one with the sculpture.

Snow sculptors at “shoe in the door” session. We learned that if someone puts a shoe in the door of a hotel room it means that the room is open for some drinks. Here you can see some of the carvers from Sweden, Korea, Japan Canada

“Be one” was a like a magnet for the visitors. In the night the sculpture showed the full potential. People queued in front of our sculpture, everybody wanted to interact with “Be one”.
